Single-slot vs double-slot strap brackets: a mounting checklist

Choose a HOSS bracket for the strap route you can verify—not because “double slot” sounds stronger. Both versions are listed for HOSS 12-inch and 24-inch straps, but the supplier pages do not establish a higher load rating for the double-slot version.

What actually differs?

  • Single-slot: consider it when your intended installation calls for one slot through the bracket.
  • Double-slot: consider it when your intended routing calls for the two-slot layout. Confirm the arrangement before buying; the name alone is not an installation diagram.
  • Both: sold by TripSpec as two-bracket packs. Straps and mounting screws are separate purchases.

Check the manufacturer’s single-slot listing and double-slot listing alongside your planned mounting location.

A pre-drilling checklist

  1. Describe the location. Record the surface material, accessible area and access behind it. A product photo cannot establish whether your surface is suitable.
  2. Draw the strap path. Mark where the strap enters and exits, where its closure sits and what could obstruct release.
  3. Request missing dimensions. Ask for the bracket footprint, hole spacing and slot clearances before committing to a tight mounting position.
  4. Confirm the hardware. HOSS calls for 8 mm screws but does not specify a universal screw length or head type on these pages. Confirm the complete fastener specification for your bracket and surface with HOSS or a qualified installer.

When neither version is the right next purchase

If you need a no-drill setup, do not buy a screw-mounted bracket expecting an adhesive or clamp solution. If you need a documented system load rating, obtain it before choosing: a strap rating does not establish the capacity of the bracket, fasteners or mounting surface.

Our recommendation is to resolve the routing and mounting questions first, then choose single-slot brackets or double-slot brackets. Do not default to double slot as an assumed strength upgrade. Contact TripSpec if you need help identifying which details to request.
